I haven’t said good morning in a while. Some busy times. So I’ll just leave this here and wish everybody a happy hump day.

I meant to ask you yesterday if these student concerts were the series you requested programmatic suggestions for some time back.
If I ever end up in Austin again I’ll be sure to attend the symphony.

Honestly, I don’t recall asking for programmatic suggestions. But these are a series of concerts the symphony performs for elementary school students. We do two a days for seven days. It’s a lot of time at the hall, but the money’s good.
If you do come to Austin, let me know. I (almost) always get comps for for ASO and AO (opera) performances.

It was a Pops style concert with National Geographic theme if I remember correctly. Seemed you wanted to flush it out with some less commonplace works.
Thanks for the offer.

Yes - not sure GM paired an automatic with any engine that powerful in 1963. Plus the rear quarter window gives it away - S/S would be S/SA if it was an auto.

Ah. That was a Pops concert, and I have no control over that programming. I just play what the pit on my stand.

Good morning! Apparently that was a Swiss Cheese car - and weighed about 3,300 lb.(!) Ran 11.70s.
Not bad for a full-sized ‘63 Pontiac!

Lightness added! How did you votes turn out?

Here’s a photo of a ‘Swiss Cheese’ Catalina frame. Note also that it’s a U-channel, not boxed. Structural integrity was, um, compromised - especially considering these cars were running 120+MPH in the 1/4 mile.
They were also equipped with *aluminum* exhaust headers, and the entire front clip (hood, inner/outer fenders, bumper) were thin gauge aluminum too.
Votes were okay - we booted out our governor and Congressman (yay) , but our local tax initiative for the HS district failed (boo) . 2 of the top 10 High Schools in the state, but not enough people want to invest in their 50 year old buildings...

A few weeks ago I picked up a judge for a local band competition at the airport. He came from Chicago, so we had a lot to talk about. I was stunned (saddened, really) to learn that there is simply no music taught in Chicago schools any more. There’s just no money for it.

I used to do some volunteer work with kids in some of the Chicago Public Schools, trying to help them get into college. A lot of the high schools don’t even offer 4 years of *MATH OR SCIENCE*.
Really.
